Jeffrey Wayne Garst

July 12, 1958 - April 11, 2022

To know Wayne was to know a friend. Wayne lived a full life full of adventure. Wayne could always be seen doing something, whether it was working with the fire department, entertaining the audiences at auctions or working outside on his many projects. Wayne’s true passion was his time with the fire department and helping people. He truly loved his career and even retirement didn’t stop him from still running fire calls. “Fireman Wayne” leaves a legacy of fire prevention and has made this community a much safer place to live. It was apparent to anyone who knew Wayne that his family was his pride and joy. He was always the leader when organizing family gatherings with home made ice cream or a game night where he would play dominoes, spades or Farkle as long as someone else stayed up playing. Wayne is his family’s ace of spades, he was always a winner. His two daughters, Emily and Katie, were his pride and joy. He was so proud of all they have accomplished over the years and what wonderful women they have become. He was looking forward to gaining John as a son when Emily marries him later this year. Wayne met his true love, Alison, later in life but that didn’t stop them from making the most of life. They had a joyous 8 years together and made it official in Oct of 2021. With this joyous union he also gained three additional children, Connor, Vickie and Vickie’s husband, Matt. He truly thought of all of them as his own. Wayne’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife, Alison Garst, daughters, Emily Garst (John Tedesco) and Katie Prewitt, step-children, Vickie Foy (Matt) and Connor York, his mother, Mary Frances Garst, sisters, Libby Heinemann and Mary Hendrickson, brother, Jerry Garst and nieces, Morgan, Kellie, Leslie, Lindsay and Kari along with numerous great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Allen Garst. As we all know Wayne spent his whole life helping people, Wayne will continue to save lives through the gift of organ donation. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Blacksburg Fire Department P.O. Box 159 Blacksburg, Va. 24063. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2022 at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy McDearis officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
